Sony’s Flagship APS-C Camera the A6500 brings a host of fantastic new features to the Alpha 6000 series with a new Front-End LSI Chip that enhances both stills and video footage. In-body 5-Axis stabilisation allows the capture of even better footage and provides around 5 stops of vibration compensation. In addition to the full pixel readout 4K video features of the previous models the a6500 also features a new “Slow and Quick” (S&Q) mode to capture super slow motion video footage.

24.2 Megapixel Exmor CMOS Sensor

With an APS-C images sensor with 24.2-megapixels the sensor features an enhanced ISO sensitivity range of 100-51200 with very low noise. Constructed with a thin copper wiring layer and a large photo diode substrate enables the sensor to deliver 4K video and Full HD at 120fps.

BOINZ X Processor with Front-End LSI

Sony’s incredibly quick BIONZ X image processor is complemented with a brand new Large-Scale Integration Chip (LSI) that uses tens of thousands of transistors to enhance processing performance. The sophisticated processing system is designed to handle the higher ISO and to optimise colour and detail rendition.

In body 5-Axis Stabilisation

With stabilisation for 5 different types of camera shake, your photographic and cinematic opportunities are expanded even further. A brand new high-accuracy gyro sensor collects movement and vibration information and compensates to provide steadier footage and grant you an extra 5 stops of shutter speed. The stabilisation system supports both lenses without optical stabilisation and Sony lenses that do offer stabilisation and will automatically combine stabilisations to offer the best performance.

4K High Video Quality

Offering 4K video recording with a full pixel readout and no pixel binning ensures that the video recorded by the A6500 is the highest quality possible. By collecting video information at 6K and then sampling to produce 4K means that the camera is capable of capturing exceptional detail and depth.

Enhanced Slow Motion

The camera also shoots Full HD footage at 120fps allowing super quick movement to be filming and then replayed in ultra-slow motion, re-ignite your creativity with the expressive technique of slow and fast motion to take your production to the next level. A new “Slow and Quick” (S&Q) mode means you can film a range of different speeds. Up to 5x Slow Motion and 60x Quick Motion can be recording in Full HD and played back without the need to post-process the footage first on a computer.

3-Inch Tilting Touch Focus LCD

With the 3-inch touchscreen LCD you can review your shots, tilt the screen to capture unique angles but most importantly now you can touch to focus. Touch Focus enables you to change your focus point quickly and easily simply by touching the LCD screen. This allows to you capture smooth cinematic focus changes even while shooting while using the viewfinder, giving you uncompromised control over your focus.

425 AF Phase Points and Rapid Rate of Capture

A Hybrid AF 4D focusing system utilises 425 phase detection points to deliver exceptional AF tracking and precise focus lock in as fast as 0.05 seconds. With a lighting fast capture rate of 11 frames per second with continuous autofocus, the a6500 can also shoot 8 frames per second in a live-view shooting mode. Providing tools to make it easier to track moving targets when capturing super-quick subjects.

Large Image Buffer

The camera features an expanded image buffer means the camera can capture a maximum of 11 frames a second for an impressive 307 shots over 36 seconds before the on-board buffer fills up with image data.

2.4 Million-dot XGA EVF

For image composition and playback, the camera has a OLED Tru-Finder XGA EVF with a 2.4 million dot resolution features a high-speed mode which displays the scene at a blistering 120fps to ensure more accurate tracking of fast-moving objects.

Large Bit Rate and Flat Colour Profiles

Professional results are easy thanks to custom colour profiles and S-Log Gamma compatibility. Delivering up to 14 stops wider dynamic range, the profiles ensure smoother tones with improved detail and clarity in the shadows and mid-tones. The profiles also ensuring you can customise your curves to match footage from other cameras for maximum efficiency in your post-production workflow. In addition to the colour profiles the camera can shoot the video at a blistering bit rate of 100 Mbps during 4K video and 50Mbps for Full HD

Weather Sealed, Magnesium Alloy Construction

Built with durability in mind, the Sony Alpha 6500 is constructed with a rigid magnesium alloy chassis and moisture and dust weather sealing to inspire confidence when pushing your physical and creative limits. It borrows a robust lens mounting system from Sony’s A7 Mark II series of cameras. Its hybrid phase and contrast detection system ensures A-Mount lenses can take advantage of full autofocus functionality when used with the LA-EA1 or LA-EA3 lens mount adapter (sold separately).
