Description

Taking their place at the top of Nikon's flagship series, 8x42 Monarch HG Binoculars are engineered with complementary technologies to produce an optic that is built to perform in low light and the harshest conditions.

First is the use of lead- and arsenic-free extra-low dispersion (ED) glass in the lens elements to correct chromatic and spherical aberrations. Next are phase-corrected and dielectric-coated roof prisms, which further limit internal light loss and interference and improve image contrast. The optical path is fully multi-coated with anti-reflection coatings, which increase light transmission, image contrast, and sharpness and provide true color rendition. Finally is the use of Nikon's field-flattener system, which eliminates the distortion common at the lens edges, producing crisp details along the far periphery of the wide field of view. This all translates to bright and clear, high-contrast images with accurate color across the field of view—especially at low light such as early morning and late evening, and under heavily overcast skies.

The chassis is built with a short bridge design, which presents more gripping surface and helps to reduce the overall weight. Made to survive use outdoors, the optical tubes are nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to make them not only fogproof when moving between extreme temperature changes, but also waterproof and submersible. The exterior has textured, rubberized panels that protect against knocks and drops and offers a slip-resistant grip for sure handling in cold and wet conditions. Nikon includes tethered objective lens covers and ocular rainguard to ensure they cannot be lost easily and are ready for use at a moment's notice.

Engineered for performance and durability, the Monarch HG will be your constant companion when conquering any peak or braving any storm.

Outstanding clarity with edge-to-edge sharpness and a wide field of view

  • Wide apparent field of view (60.3° for 8×30, 8×42 and 62.2° for 10×30, 10×42). While realising a wide field of view, the Field Flattener Lens System assures a sharp and clear view all the way to the lens periphery.
  • Extra-low dispersion (ED) glass corrects chromatic aberration that causes colour fringing and realises a contrast-rich and high-resolution image
  • High-quality multilayer coating is applied to all lenses and prisms while dielectric high- reflective multilayer coating is applied to the roof prisms, achieving up to 92% or higher light transmittance, which enables a bright view and natural colour fidelity
  • Phase-correction-coated roof prisms for high resolution and contrast
  • Scratch-resistant coating is applied on the objective lens and eyepiece surfaces
  • Long eye relief design ensures a clear field of view, even for eyeglass wearers
  • Lead- and arsenic-free glass is used for all lenses and prisms
  • Turn-and-slide rubber eyecups with multi-click facilitate easy positioning of eyes at the
    correct eyepoint
  • Dioptre adjustment ring locking system prevents unintentional rotation
  • Sturdy, lightweight magnesium alloy body
  • Superior waterproof/fogproof performance with a nitrogen-filled body that resists water
pressure to a depth of up to 5m/16.4 ft. for 10 minutes and prevents fogging inside the optical
system even in low-pressure environments up to altitudes of 5,000m/16,404 ft. equivalent
  • Soft-to-the-touch neck strap
  • Objective lens caps are integrated to prevent loss
  • Optional tripod adapter enables attachment to a tripod [TRA-3/Adaptor H (hard type)]

    New Monarch HG 8x42

Posted by Tim on 3rd Aug 2021

I had researched the top brands and read review comparisons to Zeiss,Leica etc.I have Nikon camera gear and lenses so was probably leaning there already. For under 1500 AUS they punch way above their weight.Simple and easy to follow instructions put them around your nec k within minutes of opening the box.First outing a -3 deg morning 30mins before sun.Pre sunrise low light was no problem, sharp cleaer vision even across the sunrays once they penetrated the trees, absolutely no fogging,3 position adjustable eye cups are set perfectly to minimise heat exchange from ones face to cold lenses. For me ,who also carries a camera they were a very comfortable one hand operation to hold and focus moving the focal point from 250mtr to 20mtr through tree tops and understorey. Also great for checking the surf from my back step, easily plus 1km as the crow flies. After 6hrs of birding you hardly know they are around your neck. The eye piece caps remove to hang alongside the binos attached to the strap.I thought hmmm maybe not but no problem and never in the way.The pop down Lense caps do as they say and just hang down out of the way.Super convenient to not have to put them in a pocket or back pack.KInda unloseable.I do not always stick to the track so the perfect length strap allowed me to tuck them into my side while I moved through the scrub and bouldered creek beds. The only minus is the field flattening at short range but really,I was used to it after the first outing.Bonus clear vision,I mean really clear and sharp at 150mtr I am able to view a Pardalote in detail, who is small enough to hide behind a gum leaf.
